When self-censorship is self-preservation


Last night I did something I hadn't done in a very long time: I removed a published post from this blog. Nobody told or asked me to remove the post. Nor did anyone threaten legal action or worse. Moreover, the post had only been up about four hours, and in that time, according to Blogger's helpful stats-tracking, only one person had read it, indicating to me that Whirled Musings is as wildly popular as ever. I just can't keep up with the demand.

But after talking about it with my husband, I had some serious second thoughts, given how unhinged and litigious the subject appears to be (not to mention how apparently well-backed financially he is). From all indications he is a serial scammer, but has positioned himself as an American hero, which has earned him a significant following of people who are all too willing to throw their hard-earned money into his various political and social "causes." He's a genius at raising money. What happens to the money after he raises it is a matter that I'll leave to the big investigative journos for now.

I'm not giving myself short shrift or being falsely modest, but merely honest, when I state that like much of the content on this Whirled, my deleted post wasn't breaking any new ground. I was only reporting and linking to other credible sources about this man and his many schemes. But I simply don't have the resources to deal with any serious blow-back at this point.

What really sticks in my gut about this matter is the fact that this guy has become such an advocate/activist for "free speech," even starting a crowdfunding page, supposedly to protect free speech, though apparently the real purpose is to pursue legal action against platforms (e.g. Facebook) that he feels have "censored" him. He has already raised tens of thousands of dollars for this cause. But, like so many other folks I've observed, it appears that he believes "free speech" only applies to him and his allies. He has threatened and harassed and even doxxed some of his critics and detractors, and has then turned around and sued them (and crowd-funded his legal costs). His litigiousness, as well as his double standards about free speech -- not to mention his right wingnutty political and social opinions and his love of (actual) fake news -- remind me very much of a nutcake I've previously dealt with. But this guy has a much greater following than that nutcake.

So I'll leave it to others to do the heavy lifting on this one: those who either have the backing of a strong legal team or who are lawyers themselves. Meanwhile, I'll go on being an advocate of free speech, even if it's speech I don't like.

PS ~ Free speech doesn't mean consequence-free speech, as whiny, blubbery conspiracy peddler Alex Jones learned again when the courts handed a victory to plaintiffs in a defamation suit against him. The plaintiffs in question are families of the Sandy Hook shooting victims, who alleged that they faced frightening threats and harassment as a result of Jones' continual public claims that the shooting was a hoax, The court ruled that Jones' fake-news org Infowars must turn over internal documents to these families.

Kevin Trudeau still begging Donald Trump to free him from prison


It's really #sad that #NotMyPresident Donald J. Trump's problems with "this Russia thing" keep popping up in the fake news media, and that the problems just seem to be getting worse. That whole totally-made-up saga is keeping Drumpf from his real work of taking America back (to the nineteenth century), building a better world for the one percent, and -- most important of all -- freeing imprisoned serial scammer Kevin Trudeau, aka KT, aka Katie. It just isn't fair.

But Katie, who died for your sins... oh, wait, sorry... that was another savior... I mean, who allowed himself to be thrown into a minimum-security Federal sleepaway camp (which he calls "Camp Cupcake") in order to fight for your rights to freedom of speech, and who became a true martyr to the cause, will not give up in his quest to be redeemed by Cheeto Jesus. As I've mentioned here before, this is probably a matter of professional courtesy. Being a career con artist, Katie no doubt believes that lifelong scammer Trump will be sympathetic. And truly, Katie isn't asking for much at all; he simply wants Trump to commute his ten-year prison sentence for criminal contempt related to fraudulent claims about Trudeau's weight-loss book. He also wants Trump to pardon him.

The problem is that he just can't seem to get Donnie to notice him.

Katie's most recent (as of this writing) plea appeared on his Facebook public page, on June 8, 2017.

Wrote he, through one of his faithful proxies:
As you may know, I am serving a 10 year prison sentence for "contempt of court", because I went on TV and talked about my books (all the details are at [KevinTrudeau dot com]). I have filed an Official Petition for Commutation of Sentence with the President. This means I am asking the President to exercise his power to lower my sentence and have me released. As of today, there has been no response from the White House. However, this is not unusual. The President has yet to appoint and have confirmed the person who will be in charge of the Pardon Office. So, keep writing, tweeting, emailing, posting on the facebook pages and calling. The President, the Vice President, The First Lady Melania, Ivanka, Eric, Donald Jr, Jared Kushner, Kelly Ann Conway, as well as your Senator and Congressman telling them you support the decision to have my sentence commuted. Tell them about all the information at [KevinTrudeau dot com]. Maybe send them copies of my books, or copies of the letters I have sent to the President. The more you do, and the more often you do it, the better the chances are that the President will see the massive support there is for commuting my sentence. Thanks for all you do! While I am optimistic that the President will commute my sentence, there still is one more legal appeal I can file. This is called a 2255 motion. This appeal must be filed by November of this year. That is the deadline. My current lawyers cannot file this appeal. I need to find a new lawyer who has successfully filed 2255's in the past and would like to take on my case. "See you all at the TOP?" Maybe he means the top bunk. I am almost completely certain that I have used that joke before, though I'm too lazy to search my own blog to confirm it, but I believe in recycling. I think it's a nice touch for Katie to list some of the other people his fans should be bugging besides Drumpf. I know Melania will be thrilled to hear from all of Katie's fans, and I'm sure that Drumpf's son-in-law Jared Kushner, whose business dealings are currently being investigated by special counsel, will be sympathetic to Katie's plight. Maybe Jared and Katie can get together and cook up some new scams. Or maybe they can just share some fine whines about how oppressed and persecuted they are. Perhaps they'll be joined by the Whiner-in-Chief. 

As for Drumpf having yet to appoint and confirm "the person who will be in charge of the Pardon Office," I imagine that's way down on the list of priorities in an administration where hundreds of vacancies remain unfilled.

Anyway, judging from Katie's plea to his gullibles to help him find legal representation, it appears that he is having as much trouble finding a good lawyer to help him through his travails as Herr Drumpf is having. Why, oh, why, do such bad things happen to such good and righteous men? 

But dry your tears, Dear Ones. Katie tells us that he is still perfectly happy and at peace right where he is, and that he doesn't actually care when, or if, he is ever set free. At least that's what he keeps on telling us, and telling us, and telling us. (Never mind those crocodile tears he cried, while begging for his freedom, every time he stood before a judge. That was just for show.) And for just a modest recurring fee, he will be thrilled to share his secrets to perfect inner peace with you.

However, I do think he misrepresented one teeny-tiny little item in his June 8 Facebook post. The post indicated that the White House had not yet responded to all of the zillions of letters, emails, phone calls, tweets, texts, whines, and threats sent their way. And yet... and yet... on the KevinTrudeau dot com site, there's this June 2, 2017 entry on the #FreeKevinTrudeau blog, titled, "Persistence Pays: White House Acknowledges #FreeKevinTrudeau."

After literally thousands of letters, emails, tweets and phone calls The White House has taken the first step in acknowledging the Free Kevin Trudeau campaign (#FreeKevinTrudeau)

We have been provided with 2 (almost identical) replies from the White House acknowledging that correspondence is in fact being received.

While President Trump hasn’t address [sic] Kevin’s case or his own views in the communication, he does go on to thank the writers for their support for himself and his wife Melania.

You will be familiar with the Acres of Diamonds story, where people often quit just an inch from the goal. Remember, if this we [sic] are [are] an easy task, it would have already been done by now.


So who cares  if the "acknowledgment" was nothing more than a generic form letter with a digitized Trump signature? It's a beginning! And remember those Acres of Diamonds!

At any rate, it's really, really important that all of y'all who want to see Kevin Trudeau freed continue to hammer away at everyone who is even marginally involved with Donald Trump. Maybe you can even start another petition to the White House, such as this well-meaning effort that was launched in February of this year.


For my part, I have been racking my brain to think of any "superstar" lawyers I know who might be able to help Kevin with his 2255 motion or any other heroic legal feat to help spring him from Camp Cupcake. As it happens there are a couple of sharp-as-a-tack legal eagles in Greensboro, North Carolina who might be a perfect fit. They seem to have a lot of experience defending drunk drivers and violent criminals and whatnot, as well as suing harmless bloggers on behalf of various nutcakes. Maybe I'll recommend them. They did such a good job with one of Kevin Trudeau's moronic ex-boyfriends that I'm sure they'll be able to help Katie too.

There's also a personal-injury lawyer in Kevin's old haunt, Chicago; a year before the North Carolina case, this lawyer helped that same ex-boyfriend of Kevin's by suing a harmless blogger for something that another blogger had written, and then withdrawing from the case and throwing his client under the bus. Maybe this attorney could use some new business.

And if neither the North Carolina comedy team nor the Chicago clown works out, maybe Kevin can contact his old bromantic partner directly for recommendations, as the latter is still furiously and impotently rattling the legal sabers. To hear him tell it, he has a huge and formidable legal team, poised to sue any and everyone on the planet. So, good luck, Katie!

Kevin Trudeau: The shape of things to come?

The graphic above -- and of course you will probably need to click on it to enlarge it -- was taken from one of several interesting documents filed on July 13 of this year. (A link is provided at the end of this post.) Court documents related to this case are public record; many can be found on the FTC Web site, and other sites, by typing in the case number and state.

Here are just some of the things the document previewed above says about the "fearless whistle blower" that Trudeau's minions imagine him to be:

To date, he has refused to pay any [of his fines to the FTC], claiming poverty. But his claim is a charade, flatly contradicted by the facts. Trudeau is engaged in multiple, lucrative business ventures and lives a life of luxury. Trudeau, his wife Nataliya Babenko, and the many corporations he owns or controls have held more than eighty (80) bank accounts at five different banks over the past five years, through which $220 million has flowed. Indeed, rather than making any reasonable effort to pay the sanction, Trudeau has gone to extraordinary lengths to shelter or conceal significant assets by, inter alia: transferring them offshore or to his wife, Babenko; keeping his name off corporate records and bank accounts by using Babenko and his long-time confidant Suneil Sant as his nominees; and in the case of his corporate affiliates, by “layering” or transferring funds through multiple bank accounts to conceal their origin. In addition to using his companies as a means to conceal his assets, Trudeau also has used a casino to launder funds, purchasing hundreds of thousands of dollars in chips, mostly with corporate funds, and then cashing out almost the same amount of chips later after relatively minimal gambling.

Bottom line: The FTC wants to put Kevin Trudeau in jail until and unless he pays his more than $37 million fine (the "sanction" referred to above). They are on his case big time.

Of course, True-dough will no doubt continue to milk it for all it's worth, as he has been doing for several years. He'll whine about how the big bad gummit is suppressing him because he is trying to exercise his rights of free speech to tell the unwashed masses about how bad the gummit is, and how bad Big Pharma is, and how bad the food industry is. Sadly, some of the minions still believe his whiny story.

But others -- and not just the authorities -- see him, and his Ponzi-ish Global Information Network (GIN) differently. Some of us have been snarking about it for years. But snarking can only do so much. The FTC and no doubt other government agencies see GIN for the Ponzi-ish scheme it is. And they've had True-dough's number for a long time. As the above-quoted document notes:
The Court is very familiar with Trudeau’s long history of deception and contumacious conduct.
Let me be clear. I don't think there is anything wrong with being contumacious. But there is a LOT wrong with being deceptive, particularly if you are using deception to bilk people out of millions of dollars. And all of the frantic efforts by the apologists to paint Trudeau as a hero and GIN as something good and true and pure will not, in the long run (or even the short run) make a difference. (Sorry, L.E. and friends. Y'all are just going to have to find another fearless leader and can't-miss moneymaking bidness op to glom onto.)

Trudeau has had other setbacks too; on October 5, the Supreme Court of the United States denied a petition to hear his case, despite the Libertarian Cato Institute asking them to do so. Here is a link to a Cato Institute blog post about this. I urge you to read it because it does illustrate that not all of these issues are black-and-white, good-versus-evil matters. But frankly, I think Cato is kind of missing the larger point.

It's been a year of setbacks for True-dough, beginning earlier when it became clear that his efforts to hide some assets via sweet wifey Natalie were an epic fail. Natalie, Natalie, what have you gotten yourself into? Do you ever long for those simpler times when you and your hubby were kissing up to Joe Vitale and other New-Wage superstars, grooming them for involvement in GIN?

Near as I can tell, all of the above does not mean Trudeau necessarily will be incarcerated. And even at this late hour, I am still not sure that caging him is the best solution. After all, unlike some of the people that my colleagues and I have written about, he hasn't killed anyone (that I know of), nor is he an alleged sexual predator, that I know of.

But someone needs to stop him from scamming people.

In any case, more FTC/court action is due later this month. According to this document...

Trudeau's failure to pay a penny of the $37.6 million he owes is the subject of the FTC's collection proceedings and a pending Motion to Hold Defendant Trudeau in Contempt (Doc. 481). The court had entered and continued that motion until it ruled on the instant Motion to Modify. Having decided to deny the instant motion, the court hereby sets the following schedule on the FTC's Motion to Hold Defendant in Contempt (Doc. 481): Trudeau's response shall be filed on or before September 24, 2012; the FTC's reply shall be filed on or before October 15, 2012. The court will hold a status hearing on October 24, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. to determine whether an evidentiary hearing is required in connection with the FTC's Motion to Hold Defendant Trudeau in Contempt. The status hearing previously set for August 30, 2012, is vacated.
There's a lot more information available, but alas, I haven't had much time for blogging. Real work -- or, more accurately, paying work -- has taken up a lot of my time. So I apologize to those who may have been counting on me to keep up with this. Fortunately there are others now to take up the slack. (Hint: Keep your eye on GINtruth.com.)

It is 22 pages long, but very well worth reading -- more concrete evidence of what some of us were saying years before we knew the particulars: Kevin Trudeau is a con artist, and GIN was one of the biggest scams of his life. And even if he does capitulate and pay that $37.6 million FTC fine, there are scads of other potential charges that can and probably will be piled upon his lying head. So stay tuned...

He's taking another opportunity to flash his faux-creds and, more importantly, to mine the disgruntled GIN base for his own purposes. Pierce-ing the veil of lies: getting even with Stephen

As reported on the Salty Droid blog last week, there is a class action lawsuit brewing against Internet marketer Stephen Pierce. And it's about time. For far too long, too many "success" gurus have been peddling their frauducts and flopportunities online and on TV infomercials, persuading thousands of vulnerable and desperate people to fork over millions of dollars that most really cannot afford to spare. Once they realize that they've squandered time, money, and mental and emotional energy for squat, most of these unhappy customers have little legal recourse. Some are too ashamed or perhaps just too stubborn to admit they've been taken, so they swallow it, or they turn a blind eye and order more frauducts, hoping the next one will be the key to the realization of their dreams. Others may own up to being swindled, but they simply don't have the resources to pursue legal remedy.

 Now, with this developing case against Stephen Pierce, we have what could be a notable exception to this sad scenario. It may even inspire other similar actions against serial scammers -- at least those who haven't made themselves sue-resistant by setting up their scams on obscure offshore isles. But perhaps even those hucksters will get their due, someday.

First things first, though. Says Salty, regarding the lawsuit against Stephen Pierce:
Dallas Attorney Alan Rosenberg is preparing to bring a lawsuit against Stephen Pierce International {and affiliated companies and individuals} for the victims of SPI’s various scams :: fake opportunities :: and boiler room soul crushings. Alan and his firm :: Chamblee, Ryan, Kershaw & Anderson, P.C. :: have agreed to take the case on a contingency basis … which is super awesome of them because people who’ve just been scammed for insane monies don’t tend to have lots of cash lying around.

If you’ve been scammed by Stephen Pierce {or a phone room calling in his name} you should consider being a part of this suit. Not just for yourself :: or for the money {which you deserve to get back} … but because it needs to be done for the greater f-----g good. Because it’s not going to stop unless we all step up and do our part to stop it.

Why Stephen Pierce? After all, on one level, this founder of the defunct Black America Online (it seemed like such a good idea at the time!), and co-founder of the hustledork clearinghouse SANG, is just one of hundreds of smarmy pitch men (and women, though women are a very small minority in the upper echelons of this dodgy industry). Although by many reports Stephen Pierce treats his family, friends, and employees shamefully, there is still nothing particularly exceptional in that; lots of egomaniacs and sociopaths are equally reprehensible. But Stephen Pierce has made himself stand out in a very big way. Writes Salty:
...he decided he needed to hire the classless act attorneys at Vorys Sater Seymour and Pease to sue everyone in sight … mostly people he’d already made to suffer … mostly people who can’t afford to hire an attorney. That awesome move was enough to bump Stephen Pierce up to number one on my list … so well done there champ.
As my pal Marty at the Articulayers blog writes:
According to Salty’s investigating, Pierce not only has scammed tens-to-hundreds-of-thousands from people buying biz-ops, but he also flexes his lawyer on them, and sues people all the time. It doesn’t take a genius to do a little web searching and find tons of complaints on Pierce – but these are common in the stinking, scuzzy world of biz-op Internet marketing. What is not common is to sue people as much as Pierce does, and this is pretty unappealing by most standards. It’s like stealing the wheels off wheelchairs, or raping the wounded.
Couldn't have put it better myself.

And by the way, I've addressed this point before but will go there again for the benefit of any new readers. Some people are put off by the "salty" language on Salty Droid's blog. Some are confused by his sometimes cryptic writing style, and they end up scratching their heads and wondering what the heck he's talking about. (Following the many links he provides would actually clear up much of that puzzlement, but some folks don't bother.) One person whose work I respect even warned me that by quoting Salty so much on my own blog, I might be damaging my own credibility (such as it is). And some simply dismiss Salty as a hater hiding behind a fake-robot persona. 

Well, he is a hater -- of scams. But he's hardly hiding. As I am doing with my Cosmic Connie persona, Salty is hiding in plain sight. He reveals his real name -- Jason Jones -- and other personal information right there on his site. 

And while some of the profanity might make you flinch, I urge you to stick around for the real information about real scams and scammers. As I've said many times before, I believe that Salty-aka-Jason's heart is in the right place, and so is his head. I am far from the only person who thinks he's doing good, especially with his latest series about Stephen Pierce -- a series that is still ongoing. If you really want to get up to speed about Stephen Pierce, follow this link. And don't worry; you'll get used to the language. Just try to put it in perspective: A few cuss words here and there aren't nearly as bad as the real harm that is being done by the folks being cussed.

It wasn't too long ago that, like millions of other people, I'd never even heard of Stephen Pierce. My blog had always focused on those whom I considered to be the higher-profile New-Wage/selfish-help/McSpirituality gurus and some of their minions -- you know, the stars of The Secret, Oprah's darlings, and the like. Reading Salty Droid's blog opened my eyes to other, intimately related, factions of the industries I'd been targeting for many years.
But Stephen Pierce still wasn't really on my radar until I heard from a former employee of his. Without mentioning any names at the time, I wrote a post about that person's experiences a few years ago: http://cosmicconnie.blogspot.com/2009/11/lies-that-blind.html.

In retrospect, knowing what I know now, I see that my post barely touched on the atrocious behavior and hypocrisy of Stephen Pierce. My main point in writing it was to bolster my contention that hypocrisy, appalling behavior, and train-wreck personal lives are par for the course with all too many motivational, marketing, and pop-spirituality "stars." The people who make millions telling us how to live our lives are the ones whose own lives are sorry examples.

Now it looks as if Stephen Pierce may really get what's coming to him. Perhaps in the process, some of his colleagues and enablers, such as the notorious Utah-based "coaching" mill and boiler room Prosper Learning, may get a little karm-uppance too. The good news is that you can help with the effort to pursue justice for the victims of Stephen Pierce. First off, I'll reiterate what I cited above: If you -- and/or someone you know and care about -- were scammed by Stephen Pierce or anyone representing him or Stephen Pierce International, contact attorney Alan Rosenberg at arosenberg@chambleeryan.com. Even if you were not directly affected, you can help by spreading the word. In Texas, attorneys are not allowed to solicit clients. So it's up to all of us interested lay folk to get the word out. 

You can use social media, for example. Tweet about this matter, and write about it on your Facebook status. Of course, you can also blog about it if too you feel so moved. Some of my favorite bloggers and scam fighters have already gotten in on the act, including:

You might also consider writing comments -- again, as appropriate -- in some of the discussions following reviews of Stephen Pierce's work on Amazon. Here's a page for one of his books. But please don't spam. Don't just copy and paste the same comment on dozens of threads, as that doesn't help the cause at all. As Salty noted on a thread on his blog, we have to take the high road -- both legally and morally -- all the way.

But I do urge you to do something. If not for yourself, do it for the thousands of people who feel they have been scammed by Stephen Pierce, those who have been maltreated by him, and those who haven't yet awakened from their fever dream of being led by the hand to unlimited wealth by this blustering blowhard. There's sweet little Mrs. Saunders, for instance, hand-painter of Christmas ornaments, who was still apparently enamored at the time she put this video up in 2010:

In the video, there is a very conspicuous cross on the wall behind Mrs. Saunders, which for me just raises the question: WWJD? (Maybe he'd get behind this contemporary effort to throw the moneylenders out of the temple?) I can't help but wonder if Mrs. Saunders has since joined the ranks of the disillusioned. Whether she has or not, however, thousands of unhappy people are decidedly in those ranks, and would like to see a little bit of justice. Here's hoping they get it. Yes, I'm still here

Oh, Good Goddess. I just signed into Blogger for the first time in weeks, and saw a bunch of comments waiting to be moderated. And publish them I did, even those that were calling me to task for one thing or another.

My sincerest apologies to all of you for the delay. As I may have mentioned before, I used to get notifications of comments regularly at my email address, cosmic.connie@juno.com, which I check many times every day. Once upon a time, I could easily publish comments with just a couple of clicks in the body of the email. But Blogger has been very weird about that for the past few months, and now I mostly have to sign in to see and publish comments. Since I have been very busy once again with paying projects (and of course, I'm not complaining!), I have been neglecting my Whirled, and hadn't even bothered to sign in to Blogger for several weeks.

So, again, I apologize, and please know that I appreciate your participation. And for those who may have been hoping that I've decided to give up on this snarky forum altogether, dream on. You can keep on doing your "cleaning" and "clearing" and other superstitious rituals, or you can pay con artists and witch doctors to do the cleaning and clearing for you, but I have no intention of abandoning these Musings. I have numerous posts in the hopper, and I intend for them to see the light of day. So hang on. I'm just gathering strength for the next onslaught.

Meanwhile, I can't recommend this post highly enough. It's from my considerably more focused blogging colleague, Salty Droid. It's all about the impotence of the US FTC and other bodies that are supposedly here to protect us from the scammers. Read it. Now. Here it is again:
