This segment shows more of reporter Ben Fordham’s interview with Schirmer. At one point, Schirmer maintains that he has always had good intentions.
To which Fordham replies, "Intention and action can be worlds apart."
Says Schirmer: "Well… they can be."
And apparently they have been, where Schirmer and his unhappy clients/employees/vendors are concerned. I guess maybe Schirmer wasn’t practicing powerful intentions (which I blogged about quite some time ago) – despite the fact that he is an "Abundant Member" on The Secret/Powerful Intentions forum.
More later.
if you do a google blog search on "david schirmer" one of the things you get if you sort by date is a secretron blog of some nobody secret supporter who says of all the masterful secret teachers they never liked him, or words to that effect.
ReplyDeleteschirmer himself responds very pissily with the non-defense of "if you only knew the TRUTH you'd think different". i guess he thinks the statment "you just dont know the TRUTH" is somehow a better defense then the actual TRUTH, which would be a point-by-point refutation of any charges made.
he also says he refuses to be drawn into any discussions. but the guy is obviusly ego-surfing his name to see what bloggers are saying about him and i guess he felt safe enough yelling at some poor secretron in the hopes of cowing the starstruck wannabee back into the fold.
if he is ego-surfing maybe you will be lucky and he will come yell at you too. maybe then when he says "if you only knew the TRUTH" you can perform the public service of asking exactly what the TRUTH is, since he seems to be forgetting THAT part in his defense.
but of course then you will just get a huffy self rightious "i don't have to answer to you i refuse to be drawn into it".
wow, maybe i should be a psychic, huh?
LOL, Anon...yes, you should be a psychic. Schirmer is certainly welcome to comment here, but so far he hasn't... I guess he just hasn't gotten around to it yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links, Connie. How do you find them? I did a search on the ACA site but nothing comes up.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised the follow-up is so short. I wonder if they have another show in the works.
Hi, Lana. One of my Aussie pals sent me an email with the ACA link, and another pal sent the YouTube link. I learned by my own searches on the ACA web site that their search engine seems to be very limited. Apparently it only looks for words that are in the actual title of the video. Since "Schirmer" (or "David Schirmer") weren't part of either title, typing those names in yielded no results.
ReplyDeleteI wished the video had been longer too but ACA's format seems to be short segments (kind of like "Extra" or similar US shows). However, Schirmer did mention in one of his complaints on the original "Secret/Powerful Intentions" forum thread (the thread that was deleted) that overall they interviewed him for several hours. "Four hours for less than seven minutes of entertainment," or something like that, as I recall. I can look it up because I copied and pasted the thread before it was deleted.
Anyway, I'm sure there's plenty more material. Maybe ACA will get sufficient demand for more that they'll run a whole show or an hour-long special on the Schirmer case alone.
Maybe ACA will get sufficient demand for more that they'll run a whole show or an hour-long special on the Schirmer case alone.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Connie, I doubt that will happen. ACA can occasionally do a good story, but it's pretty much tabloid TV. Having been indirectly involved in a couple of their stories in the past, they definitely start with an angle that will get ratings and manipulate the material to reach that aim. A highly reliable news source they are not.
This doesn't meant their story on the weasel Schirmer is wrong per se, but it's unlikely they'll do something in depth on it - that's not how they work.
It doesn't surprise me that they shot four hours of footage for a 10-15 minute segment, for example. But a lot of that was probably Schirmer showing off his house, cars and dining room table. And Schirmer's claim in "The Secret" online forum that the interviewer talked over him is clearly nonsense. The interviewer was aggressive, unco-operative and plain nasty, but he gave Schirmer many long, loooong pauses to explain himself. The weasel spent them sweating, swallowing nervously and stammeringly trying to change the subject.
Two more pieces of information for you from here in Australia:
(i) It was Schirmer who first approached ACA, not the other way around, so he was hoist on his own petard.
(ii) The Australian Tax Office is now investigating Schirmer's business dealings.
I'll keep you posted on local developments on this story. "Curiouser and curiouser" said Alice.
I have it on good authority that the interview went for 1.5 hours. So they have plenty more up their sleeve to run quite a few more shows should they so desire.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the additional info, Timbo. At least the ACA segments got the ball rolling. I'd heard that Schirmer approached ACA first; obviously, that backfired. Anyway, I appreciate your keeping me posted on this affair!
ReplyDeleteYes, Anon, an hour and a half interview should give plenty more material... maybe they'll release it on DVD. And, hey... maybe they should promote the DVD with viral marketing! I bet Rhonda Byrne could give them some good marketing tips... :-)
ReplyDeleteHe's getting quite a name for himself around the internet, but maybe not the name he was hoping.

LOL, Anon. Yes, he is definitely becoming internationally famous, as he had hoped back in the day when he was just a poor and honest farmer.
ReplyDeleteOk Connie, "poor" I can go along with but the "honest" is pushing things a bit far! A leopard does not change his spots and I think that this one has been spotty for a long time.
ReplyDeleteSo... are you saying his "honest farmer" approach to investing is false advertising? I don't know how much more disillusionment I can stand... :-)
ReplyDeleteI know the disillusionment must nearly be making your life unbearable at the moment, but nevermind, this will pass....but then again maybe it won't....we are talking about very stupid people here and they do not change their ways very easily!!
ReplyDeleteEpisode 3 of schirmer on ACA on channel 9 at 0630p Monday night (June 25, 2007) in Oz.
No doubt this will appear on Youtube shortly after. It could well have another ’secret teacher’ on it that is not all that impressed with schirmers antics.
Thanks for the tip, Anon. I look forward to seeing the new episode, though I have to say that, given the fact that so many of "The Secret" "stars" are hustledorks who make their living selling mostly false hopes and empty promises, it may be a case of the pot calling the kettle black. :-) Still, it should be interesting.
